The Memel Hotel, a jewel in the heart of the Free State
The Memel Hotel turned a 100 years young in 2014.
There is a lively bar with a big screen TV and a lovely fireplace for those cold winter evenings.
The Memel Hotel is located in the picturesque eastern Free State town of Memel and is owned and managed by Rudi. The hotel is situated 2 ½ hours east of Johannesburg and 47 km’s from Newcastle on the R34.

Seekoivlei wetlands and surrounds harbor an abundance of birdlife.
History
South Africa’s first commercial airline crash occurred near Memel on the 15th May 1948.
Fishing
Memel is a Bass Fishing hotspot with a well attended competion held annualy.
Surrounded by verdant wetlands, The Memel Hotel is the perfect stopover for an intimate escape, a family holiday or a corporate event.

Hiking trails, mountain bike routes, and fishing dams for bass/carp and yellow fish are also available.
For keen birders, we have the Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve, a RAMSA site, which at present is been upgraded with new bird hides and walkways, with completion scheduled for the end of 2011.
An ala carte menu is available with delicious meals to suit all palettes
